A Tasty Way To Prepare A Healthy Salad

Mustard seeds in a regular vegetable salad.. I never expected that it would taste good.

A few days back, at one of our family friend’s house, we were served this along with lunch. Though the dish, grabbed our eyeballs with its unique color, none of us expected that it would taste good too. After my friend shared this recipe, we gave it a try at home and it did taste good. Plus now we had an all new recipe to make our boring salads taste better. After all, who does not like healthy food to taste yummy as well.

All you need is two tomatoes, 1 cucumber and 1 onion finely chopped. Next add a pinch of salt and two slit green chilies and mix well. Add about 2 tablespoons of dahi i.e. yogurt along with 1 – 1.5 teaspoons of dry roasted peanut powder.

Now take a small vessel and add one teaspoon oil. Once it heats up, add 1 teaspoon mustard seeds. After they splutter, switch off the gas. Now empty this into your salad and mix well. Be careful while doing it.

Your salad is now ready. Garnish it with coriander leaves.

You can serve the salad with chappatis/rotis ( i.e. flat bread) or with rice. Personally I prefer it with chappatis. Healthy, tasty and filling too.

  1. Oh my, this salad sounds delicious! And thank you for adding in the explanations of certain ingredients, for those of us who are not familiar with them 🙂

I don’t think I’ve ever encountered roasted peanut powder before. Is it used only for flavour, or for some other reason as well (e.g. thickening sauces)? I’m pretty sure it would be tough to find in our grocery store. I’m wondering if it would be best to omit, use a substitute, or try to make it ourselves at home. What would you recommend?

  2. What good is that we say to prepare a tasty salad, I like very much because vegetable salads, but even more I like fruit salads. It is autumn in my country, gather the crops and the market are many fruits and vegetables. Thank you !
